UK Retailers Ceate Gain Again

uk_retailerBritish Retail Consortium yesterday released the results of a survey of retail sales in the State of Queen Elizabeth in March and the fastest increase in a year. The increase was triggered by increased household spending during the Easter holidays.

The survey confirmed reports several British retailers such as Debenhams which yesterday reported that the company recorded a revenue increase of 8.4 percent to 1.42 billion pounds until last March. “Consumers have more money in their pockets compared to two years ago,” said chief executive Rob Templeman Debenhams in London, as quoted from the AFP on Tuesday (13/4/2010).

He added that despite the sales tax will likely rise after the next general election May 6, but several factors still supportive of the addition of household spending such as low interest rates and increased savings.

Last week other retailers, Marks & Spencers also states that their quarterly sales better than expected. Until 27 March, the largest retailer in the UK sales were up 4.8 percent.

While the retailer John Lewis recorded a sales increase of 30 percent during the Easter holiday weekend late March to early April. According to John Lewis department store sales at 28 they reached 59 million pounds (USD89, 47 million) until 3 April. This amount has increased compared to the same week in 2009 that only 45.4 million pounds.
